The Night Circus - by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus is a beautiful fantasy novel that incorporates magic, wonder, and excitement within a non stop moving night circus that features jaw dropping acts and experiences for all that attend. Erin Morgenstern, the author, writes amazing fantasy books and has another successful novel titled, The Starless Sea published in 2019. The Night Circus follows 2 protagonists Celia Bowen and Marco Alisdair who are bound together as their guardians sign away their lives to compete in a challenge where only one of them will make it out alive. Prospero and Alexander have a long lasting rivalry where Prospero, Celia’s father, ultimately sacrifices her in order to win against Alexander. Alexander’s “player” is Marco, and once this challenge begins, there is no turning back. The novel follows Celia and Marco growing up training for the challenge, even though they themselves do not know what the said challenge is. Tragedy, despair, and love are prominent themes within this novel and are incorporated in an encapsulating way which develops characters and creates intense bonds between the character and the reader. This novel had me entirely entertained despite its lengthy contents, I managed to finish the book and read hundreds of pages in single sittings.
